헵세투스속(Hepsetus)은 카라신목에 속하는 조기어류 속의 하나이다.[1] 아프리카에 서식하는 헵세투스과(Hepsetidae)의 유일속이다. 오랫동안 헵세투스 오도이(아프리칸 파이크 카라신,H. odoe) 종만을 유일종으로 간주해 왔지만, 2011~2013년 연구를 통해 이 종들이 서아프리카의 상기니에 제한적으로 분포한다는 사실이 밝혀졌다. 카푸에 강을 포함하여 아프리카 남부에 가장 많이 알려진 종은 헵세투스 쿠비에리(Hepsetus cuvieri)이다.[2][3][4][5]
하위 종[편집]
전통적으로는 헵세투스 오도이(H. odoe) 종만을 인정했다. 현재, 알려진 종들은 다음과 같다.[2][4][5][6][7]
